Speedcar
Super Series legend Giant Cheque recently made
his welcome return
to the NSW Speedcar scene after Mark ‘Browndog’ Brown
took out Round Four at Gilgandra Speedway in
Central-West NSW on December 30th. Yet despite being
one of the shortest journeys so far with a five
hour drive from Sydney; Giant Cheque was still able to
catch the sights of country NSW on his tour!
First stop was visiting the relatives in Bathurst NSW;
home of Giant Cheque’s
ancestry where gold nuggets were once the order of the
day before giant cheques were a negotiable item! Driving
into town, Giant Cheque was quick to spot an old family
friend, Giant Gold Panning Man and was immediately
called upon for a photo. Not one to miss a pan filled
with gold (well Giant Cheque is worth $2,000 big ones!),
Giant Gold Panning Man got down on one knee and claimed
Giant Cheque as one of his own!
Giant Cheque and his handlers said their swift
farewells, sidestepping the dead bird not shown in the
picture (on the ground, don’t look at the sky!) and made
their way on towards the sunny skies of the Central-West
before a detour was demanded when SSS Round 4 Television
sponsor WINTV made an urgent request that Giant
Cheque would come meet his fans in the town of Orange.
Heading straight to the studio, Giant Cheque was ready
to meet some of
the
local celebrities of WINTV but was even more fortunate
to catch
up with giant WINTV sign
outside the studio doors to the jubilation of the
gathered crowd!
As night fell Giant Cheque returned to the back of his
ride for the rest of the trip to Gilgandra. Waking the
next morning with the car like a sauna (his handlers
didn’t think of getting him out of the car at the
hotel!), Giant Cheque realised Saturday was ‘the’ big
day, with his street
display being held in town with the SSS superstars as
supports before heading trackside for the show.
But as the morning progressed so did the clouds… The
dark and heavy clouds bringing rain down onto the
favoured SSS machines with Giant Cheque, as vain as
always, retreating from the damp yet busy display of the
Gilgandra main strip into the dry comfort of local
Gilgandra Speedway sponsor, The Royal Hotel. Always a
big shot, Giant Cheque was on the bar for a drink before
anyone could say “Giant Cheque it’ll go straight through
you – you’re made of corflute!” only to be stopped by
Royal Hotel publican Lance Neville Sutton.

After a number of attempted bribes against Neville
Lance’s new fan, Giant Cheque skipped the drink, had a
photo and sped off to the track to prepare for his night
of spectating from the infield. Once the rain stopped
and eager fans filled Gilgandra Speedway for some
spectacular Speedcar racing; Mark Brown stormed home for
the win and word is Giant Cheque has nestled into his
home with the Rondalee Rocket and his family…
Congratulations Mark Brown!
STOP PRESS!! STOP PRESS!! STOP PRESS!! STOP PRESS!!
Word has just been received Giant Cheque did get his
drink in the end! After a short trek home to Sydney
after the SSS event, Giant Cheque was later spotted at
the Brown family home partaking in New Years
celebrations. This photo was captured by a guest
photographer and is shown here exclusively for you avid
Giant Cheque watchers…

Giant Cheque next heads north to Sunny Queensland where
the SSS hard-chargers will battle it out for Round Five
at Charlton Raceway, Toowoomba on Saturday 20th
January!
