Sydney’s Mark ‘Browndog’
Brown held off challenges from ex-Victorian and South
Australian State Champion Troy Jordan at Avalon Raceway
to capture round 2 of the Speedcar Super Series.
Heading into the 30 Lap A-Main after a set of furious
heats races; Jordan sat as top qualifier ahead of Brown,
Newcastle young-gun Matt Smith, West Australian Dene
McAllan, Sydney’s Tony Abson, Queensland’s Ken Stanaway,
South Aussie Ben Wiese, with home-town boy Peter Ghent
Jnr rounding out the top eight.

WINNER Mark Brown N11
With time constraints at
the track seeing the ever-popular Pole Shuffle cancelled
for the night, the A-Main line up was set as per
qualifying results above and the 20 car field hit the
track for what looked to be an ultra-competitive feature
event!
Mark Brown shot out early at the drop of the green with
Troy Jordan swiftly on his tail. From there on in it
became a game of challenge the leader, with Jordan
clearly faster through the corners, yet unable to match
the speed Brown had into the straights! The duo fought
furiously over a number of laps before the chequers
flew, marking in Brown as the victor ahead of Jordan,
Ben Wiese, Troy Jenkins, Luke Dillon, Matt Young, Nathan
Smee and Peter Bourke.
“We struggled a bit through the corners but we were
quick down the straights” said a victorious Brown from
the podium. “It was just a matter of being head smart”.
“It was all timing” lamented a pleased Jordan after the
event. “We had the speed and Brownie gave me
opportunities but I was never there at the right time to
take them”.
The ‘Flying Pom’ Tony Abson claimed
TheSpeedwayShop.com.au Quick Time award with a 14.32
second lap, just beating Jordan on his home track with
14.35.
Notable mentions from the fast and furious action was
the outstanding work by NSW young-guns Matt Smith and
Anthony Brien; claiming 2 heat wins and 1 heat win
respectively; whilst the other heats were captured by
Dene McAllan (x 2) and South Australia’s Luke Dillon.
