If you’re a
Speedcar fan, then all roads lead to Murray Bridge’s
Riverview Speedway this Saturday night (15.12.2007) when
South Australia’s only resident contracted driver, John
‘Mars Bars’ McKay squares off on his home soil for the
first time this season against Australia’s greatest guns
in the national Speedcar Super Series.
John will saddle up this weekend aboard the Bert and
Helen Fenton owned SA46 Stealth powered Nissan, this
Nissan engine is the only non competition race engine in
the field and thanks to the wizardry of engine builder
Dave Baines this production line rocket is giving the
big dollar donks a real run for their money despite
being a little down on overall torque and horsepower.
So far the team has travelled in excess of 1800
kilometres for the opening three rounds of the Speedcar
Super Series (including a rain out for the opening round
at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway) and the happy go
lucky ‘Mars Bars’ McKay has recorded an 11th at Avalon
Raceway, Victoria and 6th in the B Main (out of 34 cars
entered) at the fast tracked Toowoomba Speedway in
Queensland, these results have netted John tenth overall
and he is also the highest placed rookie. This weekend
the aim for John is to finish in the top 10 against the
stiff competition and hopefully climb the position or
two in the points score.
‘This weekend I really want to put on a good performance
for the people who have helped me to get to this point.
I really must thank Bert & Helen Fenton for the
opportunity to drive the car, my dad (Rick), all the
crew and Dave Baines for building a tough Nissan motor,’
said John as he peeled back the wrapper on another Mars
Bar!
At the end of the nights activities be sure to head down
to the pits for a friendly chat over a cold Beer and the
kids can grab an autographed promotions photo (as seen
below) from John and if you have a Mars Bar or three be
sure to offer him one! Anybody offering John a Mars Bar
and bottled water will become an instant life time
buddy!
