Santa Claus wasn’t the
only high-speed traveler visiting Avalon Raceway on
Saturday night, as Sydney’s Mark Brown claimed his 3rd
Speedcar Super Series victory of the 2008/2009 season
ahead of Dene McAllan and Troy Jenkins.
Brown, who started off the front row as the highest
qualifier beside Victoria’s Troy Jordan, shot to an
early lead in the thirty lap event leaving the bulk of
the field behind for much of the race. But smooth
sailing wasn’t on the cards for the ‘Browndog’ as lapped
cars came into contention allowing McAllan and Jenkins
to reel him in over the closing laps; seeing McAllan
staging a tight but unsuccessful last corner bid for the
lead!
“I thought we were doing it quite easy and then the
lapped cars upset us” said an elated Brown after the
event. “I didn’t even know Dene was there until I saw
the shadow of a car on the last lap!”
As the duo took the chequers it was Brown who claimed
the win from McAllan, Jenkins, QLD’s Brock Dean, Jordan,
NSW’s Mark Cooper, QLD’s Brendan Palmer, VIC’s Peter
Ghent, with Queenslander’s Grant Draney and Michael
Harders rounding out the top ten.

“It’s good to always go
back to Victoria and win down at my old home track” said
Brown. “The track tonight was just awesome and the
crowd… How unbelievable was the crowd?! I’d really like
to thank Avalon Promoter Jeff Drew for having us back”.

McAllan claimed
TheSpeedwayShop.com.au Quick-Time Award ahead of Brown,
Troy ‘Flash’ Jordan, NSW’s Peter Bourke and South Aussie
star John McKay. Heats were won by Jimi Quin (NZ), Mark
Brown (NSW), Brock Dean (QLD), Michael Harders (QLD),
Stevie Walsh (NZ) and Matt Young (NSW).
The B-Main was won by Speedcar Rookie Andy Pearce (VIC)
to Neale Tobin (QLD), Ashley Booker (VIC) and Mark
Craven (VIC). The Pole Shuffle was cancelled due to time
constraints.
With Mark Brown now having acquired his third SSS round
win of the season and only two rounds remaining at
Lismore Speedway NSW (Jan 10) and Speedway City SA (Jan
17); the 08/09 NASR Point score looks to be almost in
the bag for the reigning SSS Champion. But as all Midget
fans know all too well – this won’t stop the ‘Browndog’
from trying to claim the remaining two rounds with a
whopping 52 career feature wins now under his belt!
