The weather has played havoc for
Nathan Smee Racing with speedway race meetings washed out on
both sides of the continent. Unfortunately,
both the Michael Figliomeni tribute race "Magic Man 34"
(October 27) and the
opening round of the Speedcar Super Series (November 3) have succumbed to
steady rainfall over recent weeks.
One of three New Sales Wales
representatives, Nathan and his ever supportive team ventured
west for the opening show at WA's Kwinana Motorplex.
Set to steer the Barry and Steven Graham
owned Spike/Hawk #14 in a 34 lap tribute race dedicated to the
former Australian Speedcar champion, Nathan utilised the
Wednesday night practice session taking to the track in
preparation for the big event.
As the Graham father and son duo
tweaked the car throughout the night, Nathan's lap times
steadily decreased.
"Even though the meeting was
washed out, I'm glad we came across to support the race and see
how the West Australian club rallied together for the Figliomeni
family," Nathan said "The people working behind the scenes put
in a huge effort raising money, so it's disappointing the race was
cancelled
after their hard work".
Much to the determination of Steve
Figliomeni and WASDA officials, the race meeting has now been
rescheduled for a date early next year.
"We plan on racing the Australian
Championship at Kwinana next year, so hopefully the meeting can be
scheduled around then so more drivers can race from around the
country".
"Barry and Steven worked on the
car all night, they know everything there is to know about
midgets so I let them do their thing," Nathan said before joking "I was like
a professional driver, I just got in and drove it!".
“I would really like to thank Steven
again for offering his
car to
race. It was a great opportunity and I appreciate they thought
of me to drive for their team."
