NSR PR
The first race meeting of the
season has been run and won with Nathan Smee and the NSR team
making an impact on the night’s event. A battle of the big guns
in the pre-season opener saw the “mean number 6 machine” storm
home in third in the twenty lap feature at Tyrepower Parramatta
City Raceway.
After a 2nd and 3rd placing in the two qualifying heat races,
Smee started from 8th in the handicapped Speedcar A-Main. At the
drop of the green the Kingsgrove resident slingshot into 4th
position and skilfully moved into 2nd on the back straight.
Running the highline, Smee was now hunting down the race leader
and eyeing off the first position.

Bearing down on
lapped traffic heading into turn 3, Smee took to the outside of
a fellow racer; only to be caught out as the car veered right to
exit the track. Swerving to avoid contact (and a massive wreck);
Smee was stranded on the loose surface with the solid concrete
pit wall closing in.
“After all the hours we put in, I didn’t want to wreck the car
in the opening laps’ Smee said “If I hit the car I would have
launched and landed back in the pits!”
Keeping his foot on the gas, Smee stormed back out of the rough
rather than bring on the caution lights, losing seven positions
in the process. Yet with his eye set firmly on the leaders, the
chase was on. Weaving his way through the traffic, Smee was back
into 4th place in a matter of laps.
Fighting the trio before him for the podium places with some
expert wheel to wheel racing from all drivers, Smee had
progressed further capturing 2nd before surrendering for third
in the closing lap.
The 2006-2007 Speedcar Season has started in fine fashion for
the NSR Team.
Nathan Smee Racing will contest the opening round of the
Speedcar Association of NSW Championship on the 30th of
September at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.
