With the SSS travel bug firmly instilled, Nathan Smee Racing
took to the road last Saturday for Round three of the Speedcar
Super Series. A hotly contested competition, the team were
chasing valuable points at Victoria’s Avalon Raceway before an
appreciative crowd.
Taking to the track for two intense laps against the clock, Smee
steered the Speedcar 6 machine around the 390m raceway
qualifying only 0.801 of a second off the leader.
Locked into second row starting positions, Smee began his
night’s campaign working the track for essential positions.
Wrestling the car into the corners Smee finished in 3rd
after several wheel to wheel battles on the highline. Out of
fourth in his second heat, the strategy had changed with Smee
working the lowline to move forward. Manoeuvring into 3rd
in the opening lap, and later sliding under a fellow racer out
of turn 4, Smee had captured 2nd spot in the 10 lap
race.
Only four points short off the
pole shuffle grid, it was a 10th mid field starting
position in the 30 lap A main. At the drop of the green the
midgets roared into life only for the back end of the Speedcar
to sag to the ground in the opening laps. Pulling to the
infield, Smee exited the car and became a spectator for the
night’s event.
“It’s frustrating, we worked hard adjusting the car all night to
get it right and it felt good leading into the feature” Smee
said after the event, “we stripped a bolt in the right rear
suspension and that was it for us. It’s disappointing; we’re
just not finishing where we want to at the away shows.”
With problems developing for many of the contracted drivers, the
Nathan Smee Racing team are now 6th in the Speedcar
Super Series championship with 3 races remaining on the
schedule.

“There are couple of big shows over the next fortnight” said
Smee “and I’ll be doing everything to get results for the team”
This weekend Nathan Smee Racing returns to their home track,
Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for the running of the 65th
NSW Speedcar Championship. As runner up to American Tony Elliott
in February 2005; head to the track this Saturday night where
Nathan Smee Racing has the chance to add their name to
Australian Speedcar history books.
